Good Afternoon, Today I am speaking about a very hot topic when related to Church insurance claims; air conditioning units being stolen from Churches and other houses of worship. Our insurance agency has been bombarded in regards to this very topic and there are many ways to prevent this from happening to your organization with proper risk management.
After dealing with this now for over 10 years.. We have noticed the economy has really pushed this type of criminal action into force as the criminals who are doing the damage get quick cash at the scrap yards for the copper and aluminum coils that are in these units. There are different ways to prevent this from happening. Many Churches do not know that this is being looked at from all angles. From the Insurance Company of how to stop this type of theft continuing. Then the thief in regards to how to keep stealing them.
One of the best ways to prevent an a/c theft at your Church is to put a iron cage all around the unit(s) with a lock that can't be cut off. Many contractors offer this if they specialize in caging a/c units up. The typical cost for one unit to be caged and locked is around $500-$1200 depending on the location of the unit and it's size.We have helped many organizations secure their units this way through contractors we know and endorse. Another way is to have a burglar alarm firm come and put motion censors on the units and install a motion light that will go off when the unit is moved in anyway.
We hope this gives you some help and insight on how to stop this from happening to your Church.
Thanks and God Bless!
